| Buildings
located at Rail Oaks date to a by-gone era. The
original owners constructed the 2,400 square foot
main house as a hunting lodge. Many building
materials, including oak and brick, were
transported by railroad, hence the name Rail
Oaks. Two smaller buildings originally were
utilized as a caretaker's house and guest
quarters. Although recently remodeled
extensively, they maintain the flavor and
ambiance originally intended. The Busler House remains
a quaint one-bedroom respite for birders and
others who venture to the area. Tastefully
decorated, it has a separate bedroom with a rare
king size antique brass bed. The floors are
original wood, which have been extensively
reconditioned. A fireplace is the center of a
comfortable living room with a view across the
San Pedro Valley at night and grazing deer in the
morning.
The McGregor
House also has one bedroom. It has an elevated
deck that faces the awesome Huachuca Mountains.
The field below abounds with life. Hummingbirds,
red tail hawks, roadrunners and other exotic
species are easily seen. Inside, the Mexican tile
floor, remodeled kitchen and windowed eating area
create the mood of a cozy bungalow.
Each house has
its own bathroom and kitchen, which is equipped
with modern appliances. Amenities are provided -
including linens, dishes and cooking utensils.
Also included are cable television and
telephones.
A short distance
from each guest house is a two-story
studio/gallery/ fitness center which invites
guests to view artwork or to work out on a
treadmill, weight machine or eliptical trainer. A
clothes washer and dryer are available for
guests.
Outside of the gallery is a patio
with yet another terrific view of the Huachuca
Mountains. At one end of the patio is a cascading
man-made waterfall, while the other end features
an outdoor fireplace - perfect for end-of the-day
conversations.
Rail Oaks is
designed as an overnight, weekend or extended
stay retreat for those seeking privacy and
tranquility. Yet it is close enough to enjoy
attractions in the Coronado National Forest,
Ramsey Canyon, Bisbee, Tombstone, Mexico and many
other destinations within an easy day's drive.
Well-behaved
children are welcome. No pets are allowed. As a
courtesy to our guests, smoking is not permitted.
